Holding Tank Installation information
Fittings will be located as specified by the customer. Customer is to provide a 3-dimensional drawing to show a fill, a vent, and a drain.
SOLID WASTE:
- Must include a 3" fill and a 1.5" or 2" vent located on the highest point of the tank
- Must include a 3" drain located at the lowest point of the tank
- The grade or slope will be at least .5" per linear foot to the drain
- Will have a minimum depth of 3"
GREY WATER:
- Must include a 1.5" fill and a 1.5" or 2" vent located on the highest point of the tank
- Grade or slope will be .25" per linear foot to the drain
- Minimum depth 3". Bottom edge radius on all holding tanks will be 1"
INSTALLATION RECOMMENDTIONS
Holding Tanks should always be stored out of direct sunlight and protected from freezing. The tanks should be at room temperature when installed. Chassis mounting of the tank eliminates teh need for brackets or strps and provides positive support with excellent resistance to road shock and vibration. For "chassis mounting" the tank is fabricated with the top projected 1.5" to 3" along each side or end, for a depth of 3-4". These molded projections must be used to correctly support the tank.
To test a tank, fill it with plain water and check visually. DO NOT USE A LIQUID SOAP OR DETERGENT SOLUTION as the solution will cause stress cracking in the plastic.
ABS PLASTIC TANKS
Straps no less than 1"wide should be used for supporting tanks less than 22" wide. On tanks greater than 22" wide, 2" straps are required. All straps should be installed 12"-18" apart depending on the width of the tank and bolted through the floor. Screws are NOT recommended for strap installation.
When determining locations for fittings, make sure that when installed, all stress is eliminated from fittings, tubing and tanks. All fittings are glued into the tank for complete sealing. Sealants, pipe dope, greases, petroleum jellies, glues or other adhesives not compatible with ABS should not be used. Should there be a need to install an additional fitting after you received a tank, fittings are offered that can be installed by tht ecustomer with proper adhesive.
POLYETHYLENE PLASTIC TANKS
Some waste tanks less than 22" wide, have depressions molded in on each side to accept mounting brackets. Brackets must be firmly installed but not so tight as to produce a stressed condition. Straps no less than 1" wide should be used to support tanks less than 22" wide. On tanks over 22" wide, 2" straps are required. All straps should be installed 12"-18" apart depending on the width of the tank and bolted through the floor. Screws are NOT recommended for strap installation.
When determining locations for fittings, make sure that when installed, all stress is eliminated from fittings, tubing and tanks. Almost all fittings are "spun" or "heat welded" into the tank for complete sealing. Sealants, pipe dope, greases, petroleum jellies, glues or other adhesives are not compatible with polyethylene. Should there be a need to install an additional fitting after you have received a tank, self-sealing fittings that can be intalled by the customer are available.
